31 countries represent at inaugural GFNY Malaysia
400 riders from 31 countries took on the first ever GFNY Malaysia last Sunday April 23. Riders were treated to a scenic course and cultural experience in host city Ipoh, capital of Perak which is just 200km outside of Kuala Lumpur.
Riders from as far as the USA, Mexico and Germany rode the competitive 161.5km distance or non-competitive 74.9km distance on a fast course with palm tree-lined roads, limestone hills and smooth roads. Under sizzling tropical conditions, it was Malaysia’s first cycling marathon where riders all raced together while being chip timed start-to-finish, got ranked based on finish time and took part in podium awards.
GFNY Malaysia organizer, Amin Jay has also organized the professional race Tour of Langkawi. His experience and expertise resulted in a highly polished and well executed inaugural event where riders had a true ‘Be a Pro for a Day’ experience, as the motto of GFNY states.
“Riders were treated to true Malaysian hospitality. Not only did they have a fantastic riding experience with a flawless course, traffic control and marshalling, the State of Perak and host city Ipoh rolled out the red carpet and treated riders to a wonderful pre-race dinner and cultural performances,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme.
Raziff Jaafar (Malaysia) took the men’s overall title in 4:30:13 and Nur Assyira Zainal Abidin (Malaysia) won overall women in 4:41:45.
