GFNY Brasil makes its mark on the Global Cycling Marathon Series
The inaugural GFNY Brasil took place on Sunday, August 6. The race was sold out with 1200 riders from 10 nations who traveled to Conservatória to challenge themselves on the climbs and curves of the Serra da Beleza.
The famous Brazilian Volleyball coach, Bernardinho, took part in the 160km route and was full of praise for the first-time event in his home country. “This was more than a cycling competition, GFNY Brasil gathered all levels of enthusiasts for cycling. The GFNY experience was world class in terms of organization and rider experience.”
“Conservatória was a fantastic host for this great event. The local school closed three days before the race to host the GFNY Brasil expo and on Saturday we planted trees with local children. The town square transformed into a pre-race festival area with food trucks, beer vendors and a full musical performance line up, which Conservatória is famous for. This inaugural event was a great success!” said Maria Luisa Jucá, one of the partners of GFNY Brasil.
Fernandinho Graça, Mayor of Valença, the municipality encompassing Conservatória and the nearby towns and villages, commented, “I believe that GFNY Brasil’s success is the result of dedication and commitment from all parties. We are happy and proud to have been the spotlight for this wonderful event. We will be ready to host 2000 riders at GFNY Brasil 2018.”
“GFNY Brasil was a festive, action-packed weekend of camaraderie among cyclists,” said GFNY CEO, Uli Fluhme. “The GFNY Brasil course was stunning, with rolling hills, one featured longer climb, some fun curves on small roads – it all made for ideal cycling conditions. Conservatória and the surrounding areas are so tranquil and the locals so friendly and relaxed, it made for a perfect destination for cycling and a family trip in nature.
