GFNY is coming to Denmark

Inaugural GFNY Nyborg to be held August 8, 2027

New York City, August 18, 2026 – GFNY, the Global Endurance Sports Series, announces its first race in Denmark. The inaugural GFNY Nyborg will take place on August 8, 2027, bringing GFNY racing to the historic coastal town of Nyborg on the island of Funen.

Denmark has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting cycling markets, with a passionate road cycling community and growing enthusiasm for mass-participation racing. The launch of GFNY Nyborg marks another important step in GFNY’s continued expansion across Europe and brings the series to a country where cycling is deeply embedded in both everyday life and sporting culture.

GFNY Denmark is organized in collaboration with MCI Scandinavia, one of Denmark’s leading organizers of sports events, conferences and corporate events. MCI Scandinavia will oversee the overall logistics of GFNY Nyborg, with experienced cycling expert Jens Veggerby appointed as Race Director.

“GFNY is a highly professional organization with a strong international concept. When they approached us regarding the launch of GFNY in Denmark, we quickly aligned on the framework for our collaboration,” said Per Ankær, Managing Director of MCI Scandinavia. “MCI Scandinavia is responsible for the overall logistics of the race, and to ensure the highest level of quality, we have appointed experienced cycling expert Jens Veggerby as Race Director for GFNY Nyborg.  When selecting a destination in Denmark that could meet GFNY’s requirements and ambitions, we were quickly convinced that Nyborg was the ideal place to begin. The combination of beautiful surroundings, excellent road conditions and strong local support makes Nyborg a perfect host destination for GFNY Denmark.”

The competitive long-distance race will cover 139.3 km with 919 m of climbing, while the recreational medium-distance route will cover 80.2 km, giving riders different options to experience GFNY Nyborg.

Nyborg Castle will serve as the start and finish for both distances, with long- and medium-distance riders lining up together for a mass start. The course combines flat and fast sections with gradual climbs and descents through the countryside of Eastern Funen.

“It is a great benefit for Nyborg that the international cycling race GFNY Denmark has chosen us as its first Danish destination,” said Kenneth Muhs, Mayor of Nyborg. “GFNY is a strong international brand, and therefore up to 1,000 Danish and international cyclists are expected to participate — from ambitious amateur riders to semi-professionals. Many will bring family and friends, and we will use this opportunity to showcase Nyborg to an international audience and strengthen our position as an attractive destination for sports, tourism, and major events. With GFNY, we are therefore looking forward to a weekend filled with activity, excitement, and happy visitors in the city.”

GFNY Nyborg will give riders, families and friends the opportunity to combine race weekend with time exploring the history, coastline and cycling routes of Eastern Funen, bringing together Danish history, nature and a strong cycling tradition.

The addition of Denmark further strengthens GFNY’s European footprint as the series continues to expand its calendar of destination races across the continent.
