Surf City hosts GFNY Latin American Championship

First ever GFNY in El Salvador to be held November 15, 2026

New York City, September 2, 2026 – GFNY, the Global Endurance Sports Series, announces GFNY Surf City El Salvador. The inaugural race will take place on November 15, 2026, bringing GFNY racing to one of Central America’s most dynamic coastal destinations.

Located along El Salvador’s Pacific coast, Surf City has established itself as a major tourism and sports destination, combining world-class beaches, a growing hotel and gastronomic scene, and a coastline internationally known for its surf. The launch of GFNY Surf City brings cycling to this spectacular setting and marks another step in GFNY’s continued expansion in Latin America.

The port of La Libertad, the first port built in El Salvador, will serve as the starting point of the race. Riders will set off just steps from the Pacific Ocean before heading onto the coastal highway for a challenging course that combines oceanfront roads, tropical vegetation, constantly changing elevation and exposed, windy sections.

“Surf City is exactly the kind of destination where we want to bring GFNY: spectacular roads, a strong tourism offering and an environment that makes traveling for a race worthwhile,” said GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “Just as importantly, we have an experienced local organization behind the event. The team has already demonstrated its ability to deliver major international endurance events in El Salvador, including IRONMAN, and that gives us great confidence in the quality of the first GFNY Surf City.”

The competitive long-distance race will cover 120 km with 1,883 m of climbing. The recreational medium-distance route will cover 71.7 km. The routes will feature full road closures as well as strategically positioned hydration and technical assistance points.

GFNY Surf City will offer riders, families and friends the opportunity to experience one of El Salvador’s most distinctive destinations. Visitors can explore the beaches of El Tunco, El Zonte and Punta Roca, surf the Pacific, hike to the nearby Tamanique waterfalls, and discover the region’s local gastronomy and nightlife.
