Diego Del Campo Wins Five-Second Thriller as María Laura Bugarin Defends GFNY Chile Crown

GFNY Chile delivers exciting racing through Chile’s renowned Casablanca wine region

New York City, September 30, 2026 – GFNY Chile brought competitive racing to the renowned Casablanca wine region in central Chile this past Sunday. Riders took on a challenging 127.9 km course with 1,832 m of climbing, combining demanding ascents, rolling terrain and spectacular vineyard scenery.

The men’s race came alive early when Chileans Diego Del Campo and Alonso Córdova broke away from the main group at approximately kilometer 25. The pair quickly established themselves at the front, working together to build and steadily extend their advantage over a chase group of around ten riders.

The decisive battle began on the spectacular Tunquén climb. The road leads from the shores of the Pacific Ocean into the hills, with an incline of over 20%.  Del Campo attacked on the steepest section in an attempt to shake Córdova. But Córdova was able to respond and with few opportunities remaining to create separation, the two leaders stayed together into the final kilometer.

With approximately 800 meters remaining, Del Campo launched the move that finally made the difference. He opened a small gap and held it to the line, taking the overall victory in 3:23:25. Córdova crossed just five seconds later in 3:23:30, while Gustavo Echeverría completed an all-Chilean men’s podium.

In the women’s race, defending champion María Laura Bugarin of Argentina delivered another commanding performance to successfully defend her GFNY Chile title. Racing among a fast group throughout the day, Bugarin steadily built her advantage over her closest rivals and crossed the finish line in 3:53:40 to secure back-to-back victories.

Behind her, the battle for the remaining podium places went down to the wire. Chile’s Nicole Sánchez claimed second in 4:08:33, just three seconds ahead of Brazil’s Elizangela da Silva, who finished third in 4:08:36.

The results produced an international women’s podium representing Argentina, Chile and Brazil, while the host nation swept all three places on the men’s podium.

Next up on the GFNY calendar is the fourth edition of Michelob Ultra GFNY Maryland–Cambridge which will take place this Sunday, October 4.
