Asconeguy and García win GFNY Uruguay-Punta del Este

Glamorous Punta del Este offered ideal racing conditions at the sixth edition

New York City, March 20, 2024 – Punta del Este hosted the sixth edition of GFNY Punta del Este this past Sunday.  The long racecourse was 146 km with an elevation gain of 1654 m.

Under perfect late summer weather conditions, the race started off fast at Playa Mansa.  It was at km 50, at La Horqueta climb, when a group of eight riders made the break from the peloton.  The group worked well together but it was Roderyck Asconeguy (Uruguay) who managed to get away with 40 km to go. He took the solo win in 3:46:55, nearly five minutes ahead of GFNY Colonia and defending GFNY Punta del Este champ Omar Azzem (Argentina) and Diego Jamen (Uruguay) who completed the podium.

In the female race, Mariana García (Uruguay) took the win in a tight sprint in 04:17:51 ahead of triple GFNY Colonia champion Cecilia Caillabet and Juliana Missen (Brazil) who finished in third place.

Next up on the GFNY calendar is the third edition of GFNY Cannes which will take place this Sunday, March 24, 2024.
