GFNY has partnered with WHIP LIVE to offer free live tracking to GFNY athletes and their families!
WHIP LIVE is a service that enables participants to be tracked in real time on a GFNY race course using your smartphone, eliminating the need for expensive and cumbersome GPS devices and other tracking hardware. WHIP LIVE tracking operates in the background, to preserve your phone’s battery life.
The athlete must install the free WHIP LIVE app on your smartphone (available for Android and iOS devices) and connect to the event using a PIN communicated before the event. You will receive the PIN by email in the week before the race, and you’ll also find the info when picking up your race packet.
Follow these steps to join the tracking for your GFNY race:
A. Follow the link or QR code and tap on “JOIN AN EVENT”,
Tap on “Enter event PIN“ or search and select the desired event and TAP on “ACCESS LIVE TRACKING”
B. Download the WHIP LIVE app, open it, log in, tap on PROFILE, tap on “JOIN EVENT”

The application requires MANDATORY ACTIVATION of PERMISSIONS for:
- Location
- Movement
- Notifications
- Background operation
Important!
The above steps must be completed by the athlete on the device you will use during the race, and must be completed before the race starts. Don’t disappoint your family! Your family wants to keep track of your progress during the race. But they can only follow you if you sign up for the tracking.
For family members to follow their athlete, they need to download the WHIP LIVE app, search for the event and enter your bib number.
If you go off the course during the race, the tracking will end. Notify your family if you leave the course so they know where you are because you will no longer be tracked by WHIP LIVE.
We strongly recommend that you always have a tracking device on your bike. If you and your bike get separated, WHIP LIVE only tracks your phone while it’s on the race course, but your bike is not being tracked. The best way to know your bike’s location is to have a tracker on your bike.
