3000 riders to race 11th GFNY Cozumel this Sunday
Riders and their families are turning the tropical paradise island into a road cycling festival
New York, November 7, 2024 – This Sunday, November 10, over 3,000 cyclists from around the globe will gather for the 11th edition of GFNY Cozumel, Latin America’s largest cycling race. Riders will take on a scenic yet challenging 157.5 km course, known for its flat terrain and strong coastal winds that test the athletes’ endurance.
“The success story of GFNY Cozumel shows what is possible when you bring a beautiful destination together with a strong organization,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “The team at Paradise Sports around Shaun Gad has grown GFNY Cozumel into Latin Americas largest road race within just a handful of years. But it’s so much more than a cycling race. It’s a latin style road cycling festival with an unparalleled can’t-miss-it appeal.”
Race week is packed with events at the Centro de Convenciones Cozumel. Highlights include the GFNY Cozumel group ride, giving participants the chance to ride alongside former professional cyclists Raúl Alcalá and Luis Lemus. The excitement builds further on Saturday with the GFNY Kids Cozumel races at 8am, where young riders, starting as young as two years old, will enjoy their own mini-GFNY experience, complete with a ride shirt and finisher medal.
Sunday’s race will offer breathtaking views of Cozumel’s turquoise waters and white beaches, but riders will have to contend with Cozumel’s famous headwinds. With family and friends cheering them on, participants will transform the island into a cycling mecca—combining athleticism, tropical beauty, and a festival-like atmosphere that makes GFNY Cozumel one of the most anticipated cycling events of the year.
