2,500 riders set to take over Cozumel for 13th GFNY edition
One of America’s largest cycling event returns to Mexico’s Caribbean island this Sunday
New York, November 5, 2026 – This Sunday, 2,500 registered cyclists will take on the 13th edition of GFNY Cozumel, one of America’s largest cycling events. The race brings riders from around the world to Mexico’s Caribbean paradise island for a 154.3 km challenge featuring flat terrain, tropical conditions and powerful coastal winds.
As the longest-running GFNY event after the flagship GFNY World Championship in New York City, GFNY Cozumel has established itself as a cornerstone of the global GFNY race calendar. Now in its 13th edition, the event has grown into a major international cycling festival that takes over the island for an entire weekend, bringing together thousands of riders, families and supporters.
“Cozumel is special to GFNY,” said GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “After New York City, it’s our longest-running race, and over 13 editions it has become a true celebration of cycling. For one weekend, 2,500 riders from around the world take over the island. The atmosphere, the international community and the support from Cozumel make this one of the standout events on our global calendar.”
An island-wide celebration of cycling
Beyond the race, GFNY Cozumel brings a weekend of cycling activities and celebrations for riders, families, and the local community. The Centro de Convenciones Cozumel will serve once again as the hub of race week festivities, welcoming athletes and visitors.
Among the highlights are the GFNY Cozumel Group Rides on Friday and Saturday, giving participants the opportunity to explore the island’s roads alongside former professional cyclist Raúl Alcalá.
On Saturday at 8:00 a.m., the next generation of cyclists will take center stage at GFNY Kids Cozumel. Young riders will experience the excitement of their own mini-GFNY race, adding a family-friendly dimension to the weekend’s celebrations.
A Caribbean paradise with a challenging twist
Sunday’s main event will take riders along Cozumel’s spectacular coastline, past turquoise Caribbean waters and white sandy beaches.
But while the course is almost entirely flat, it is far from easy. Strong coastal winds can turn the exposed roads into a demanding test of endurance, positioning and race tactics. Riders will need both physical strength and smart race strategy to succeed over the 154.3 km distance.
With 2,500 cyclists taking to the roads, GFNY Cozumel will once again transform the island into a celebration of international cycling. Thirteen editions after its debut, the event continues to demonstrate how a world-class cycling race can bring together athletes, families and an entire destination.
