GFNY announces 30 races for 2025

World’s largest cycling marathon brand, GFNY, announces its 2025 calendar

NEW YORK CITY, January 22, 2025 – GFNY, the Global Endurance Sports Series, announces its 2025 calendar which includes the Gran Premio New York City UCI pro race on May 18, the 13th annual edition of the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC on the same day and course, six races in the US including the brand new Michelob ULTRA GFNY Pittsburgh, seven races in France,  no less than 14 races in Latin America, and many more.

What is GFNY

GFNY is a personal endurance challenge where athletes compete against others, the clock, and themselves. Some athletes will compete for the podium, some for the GFNY Rankings, others to finish in their goal time, and others to beat the cut-off. GFNY is about doing one’s best.

GFNY provides athletes this personal challenge in exciting destinations around the world with the ultimate goal to bring a GFNY near every cyclist.

All GFNY events offer athletes the opportunity to BE A PRO FOR A DAY® :

  • Mass start
  • Individual chip timing from start to finish with awards for all categories
  • Closed roads or police moderated traffic that ensures athletes don’t have to stop during the race

Gran Premio New York City

Produced by GFNY, the UCI 1.2 men elite pro race “Gran Premio New York City” will be held on May 18, 2025 on the same course and same day as the 13th annual mass participation race “Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC”.

In this revolutionary format for cycling, 120 pros from 20 teams will start just ten minutes before thousands of amateurs on the closed-to-traffic lower level of the world’s busiest bridge, George Washington Bridge on May 18, 2025. Both races will follow the one-loop, 137 km (85-mile) GFNY course through Bergen County, NJ and Rockland County, NY with 2000 m (6500 ft) of climbing.

Holding a professional and mass-participation race at the same time on the same course was done for the first time ever at last year’s inaugural GP NYC,” says GFNY CEO and GP NYC race director Uli Fluhme.

It was exciting to see the difference in racing between pros and amateurs. And while the pro winning time was well ahead of GFNY’s, some pros were caught by the chasing GFNY field, despite their 10min. head start.  Both pros and amateurs loved the experience and the race had a worthy champion in shooting star Tibor Del Grosso of Team Alpecin Deceuninck.

New York City: Gran Premio pro race and the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship

NYC is the world’s capital city and provides a backdrop that puts the sport of cycling and its athletes on the world stage. The pro and a mass participation race on the same day and same course are making it even more exciting.

NYC is the Mecca of GFNY and the pillar of the series. This globally-renowned event has a fanatical participant base that travels to NYC from over 90 countries each year, making it the most international cycling event in the world.

The Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience to line up on the world’s busiest bridge, the George Washington Bridge, which is closed to cars, creating cycling’s most exciting cycling race start line in the world. Having world class professional racers start just ahead before the mass participation field, makes the experience even more memorable.

GFNY Rankings

New for 2025, GFNY Rankings is offering riders a way to compare their efforts to riders around the globe. Provided as overall and age group rankings, riders will get points based on their finish placing in a GFNY. All details will be announced shortly.

GFNY USA

Sponsored by Michelob ULTRA, the 2025 calendar of races in the US consists of six races, including the World Championship in NYC and the inaugural race in Pittsburgh-Monroeville.

We’re excited to make true granfondo racing accessible for riders in the USA,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “Like all GFNYs, also the US events offer proper start to finish chip timing with right of way at all intersections for all riders. If you participate in a GFNY, you’re getting the traditional and true granfondo race experience as known and born in Europe over 50 years ago. You get to BE A PRO FOR A DAY®.”

GFNY Toscana – Pistoia

This year, GFNY is back in Tuscany on April 6 with a new race in what is referred to by Italians as the “Bermuda triangle of cycling”.  No other region has brought up as many pro cyclists as the Montalbano hill area outside Pistoia. Situated just 30 km from Florence, Pistoia offers riders a true Italian granfondo experience in one of the world’s most sought after destinations.

GFNY France

Within just five years, GFNY has become the largest cyclosportive series in France and now already boasts no less than seven races. GFNY France offers everything from the glam city of Cannes at the Côte d’Azur, to the legendary climbs of the Alps such as L’Alpe d’Huez or Col de la Croix de Fer or the Pyrenees such as Col du Tourmalet, all the way to the medium mountain cycling paradises of the Vercors or Vosges.

GFNY Latin America

In 2014, GFNY was the first ever granfondo held in Mexico. Since then, GFNYs have become the “first ever” also in Colombia, Brasil, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. Today, GFNY continues to offer the true granfondo experience all over Latin America. In 2025, fourteen races will be held from Mexico in the north down to Chile in the South. Whether it’s along the beaches of Cozumel, through the hills of Bento Gonçalves or in the high Andes of Cusco: GFNY includes everything Latin America has to offer.
