GFNY Super Sunday in Chile and Ecuador
6th editions of GFNY Chile and GFNY Manta took place last Sunday
GFNY Chile
The sixth annual GFNY Chile was held on a 127.9km long competitive course with an elevation gain of 1832m.
The peloton remained compact after the start until kilometer 22 when 40 riders got away. During the infamous Muro de Tunquén climb—a grueling wall with a 27% gradient— Chilean Víctor Hrdina (Team Veloz) attacked and got away from the group. After 8km, 2023 fifth place finisher Héctor Dinamarca (Team All Cycling) and Diego Moya (both also Chile) managed to close the gap. Hrdina paid for his earlier effort and was dropped by the two. Dinamarca edged out Moya in a sprint finish with a time of 3:31:44. Hrdina came in two minutes later to complete the podium, yet still a full five minutes ahead of the large chase group.
In the women’s competition, Aranza Villalon dominated the race, coming in very strong with the male chase group racing for fourth in the male race. Fernanda González (Team Cycling Training) and Caro Werner (Squadra Bretti) completed the all Chilean podium.
GFNY Manta (Ecuador)
The sixth annual GFNY Manta was held on a 99.5km long competitive course with an elevation gain of 1768m.
GFNY Manta 2022 Champ Renzo Molineros outsprinted Luis Lasso (Team Fuga2) who has been consistently improving from his 71st place back in 2019. A win at his next GFNY Ecuador would be the logical progression. Silvio Brito (all Ecuador) rolled in five seconds later, completing the podium.
In the women’s race, Andrielle Reascos (Team RT) took first place in an impressive solo performance, eight minutes ahead of Amy Mejia and 2023 GFNY South America champion Daniela Jimenez (Team Meb Liv Toscana) who completed the all Ecuadorian podium.
Next up on the GFNY calendar is yet another double race weekend this Sunday, October 6, 2024 with the 2nd edition of GFNY Maryland and 4th edition of GFNY Cusco – Peru.
