Italians win first ever mass participation cycling race in The Bahamas
2024 GFNY World Champions Beccaria and Caddeo dominate inaugural GFNY Bahamas
New York City, November 6, 2024 -Nassau, the vibrant capital of The Bahamas, hosted GFNY Bahamas, the first ever mass participation cycling race in the country. Riders tackled a flat yet very windy 60.8-mile course.
New Yorker Kyle Devine-Szymonek (Team Zero Ducks Racing) attacked from the gun and built his lead to over three minutes with less than half of the race to go. On his heels were two chasers: 2024 GFNY World Champion Manuele Caddeo (Team OMCC, Italy) and Gonzalo Alonso Dominguez (Spain, Team Lasal Cocinas Craega Louria) who worked well together but the win seemed to have slipped away. With twenty miles to go, Devine-Szymonek’s lead started melting in the rising temperatures and with ten miles to go, the three were together. Caddeo wasn’t willing to risk a sprint so he attacked hard with five miles to go, his chasers unable to match his effort.
Caddeo took the solo win in 2:27:05 followed by Alonso Dominguez and Devine-Szymonek.
In the female race, Lorenza Beccaria (Team OMCC- Italy) raced smartly in the ten-rider-group behind the male leaders and took the win unchallenged in 2:34:38 ahead of Mariana Menezes (Brazil). Maude Sirois (Canada) rounded out the podium in third place.
Next up on the GFNY calendar is the 11th edition of GFNY Cozumel which will take place Sunday, November 10, 2024.
