“KK”, the gateway of Borneo, will host the first edition
GFNY Kota Kinabalu offers riders a race course of 130.2 km with 1109m of climbing. Start and finish are at Menara Tun Mustapha, the unique 400 foot glass tower built in 1976, located beside the blue waters of Likas Bay.
“After GFNY Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, GFNY is now offering a second race in Malaysia,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “Our goal is to bring a GFNY near every rider in the world and the support of cities like “KK” is getting us closer to being able to achieve this. It’s humbling to be part of a global community of people who love their sport and race together, no matter their background, beliefs or passport.”
Race week activities will take place at Menara Tun Mustapha. On Sunday, riders will start at Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS), Borneo´s second tallest building. The course will take riders along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, a coastal road that skirts the Likas Bay into the city of Kota Kinabalu and up short but serious climbs of Jalan Kolam Minintod.

GFNY Orcières, host of 5 stages of the Tour de France, is the seventh GFNY race in France
GFNY Orcières is the latest addition to the GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series, making it the seventh GFNY cycling race in France. Scheduled for August 25, 2024, riders will get to experience a memorable race.
Host town Orcières Merlette is located in the Champsaur Valley, in the French Hautes-Alpes at an altitude of 1850m and with slopes reaching as high as 2725 m. It has hosted five Tour de France arrivals with the first one being in 1971 and the win of Spanish legend Luis Ocana. The most recent was just back in 2020. The fabulous passes and climbs at the gates of the Ecrins National Park position Orcières as a privileged base camp for setting out to conquer many climbs.
The race offers a long, competitive and a medium, non-competitive course. The long course is 158.2 km with a 4469 meters of elevation featuring “La Petite Reine” with a 7% gradient in 7km.
“The GFNY France team around race director Cedric Haas will again provide a memorable experience in one of the most spectacular corners of the French alps,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme.
“Through the team’s hard work, in three short years GFNY has become a fixture in France with a large choice of races in diverse regions. French riders appreciate the GFNY quality and foreigners trust GFNY to make their once-in-a-lifetime French cycling experience memorable.“

Discover the wonders of the Hautes-Alpes during the GFNY Orcières cycling event. The 158 km course with a positive elevation gain of 4400 meters, traverses breathtaking landscapes. The race starts from the Orcières Merlette 1850 station, where you will ride in a neutralized peloton until the foot of the first difficulty of the day: the climb to Ancelle. Then, you will continue your route towards Lake Serre-Ponçon via Chorges and Saint-Apollinaire, offering spectacular panoramas of the Écrins National Park and Europe’s largest artificial lake. There, you will encounter a 25 km loop on well-known roads of the famous Embrun triathlon and the upcoming Tour de France, with sometimes very steep passages. Back in Chorges, get ready to face the highest point of the day: the Col de Moissière and its magnificent mountain road. Then, follow the Chaillol road, followed by the demanding return via the Serre Eyraud road, before reaching the finish line at Orcières Merlette, perched at an altitude of 1850 meters. This course promises you a real adventure and a great challenge on the magnificent roads of the Hautes-Alpes and Champsaur. Participate in this event, take up the challenge, and discover breathtaking landscapes throughout the course.
The GFNY Orcières Medium course will take you through the magical roads in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes. It covers 75 km and has an elevation gain of 2000 meters.
The neutralized start will be from Orcières Merlette 1850 towards the foot of the Ancelle climb. You will then join the long climb of Chaillol before taking on the final challenge of the Orcières Merlette 1850 climb via Serre Eyraud.
The Hautes-Alpes are known for their breathtaking landscapes, and the Champsaur is no exception. You will be able to admire majestic mountains, verdant valleys, and crystal-clear high-altitude lakes throughout your journey. The Champsaur is also famous for its unique mountain hedgerows, which add a touch of rustic charm to the natural beauty of the region.
Orcières Merlette 1850, a resort in the Hautes-Alpes located in the Champsaur valley, is a paradise for cyclists who will take advantage of the exceptional climatic conditions. The fabulous passes and climbs at the gates of the Ecrins National Park position Orcières as a privileged base camp for setting out to conquer many climbs. Lovers of ”la petite reine” will get their calves in for as the climb to Orcières is renowned for its technical and sporty nature, with a 7% gradient in over just 7 km. It hasn’t finished surprising cyclists, even the most seasoned!
The resort hosted 5 Tour arrivals (1971, 1972, 1982, 1989, 2020). However, it was the 1971 stage that will go down in history, with the victory of Spaniard Luis Ocaña, ahead of Eddy Merckx “the Cannibal”, by almost 9 minutes, before taking the yellow jersey. This stage remains the most memorable of the Tour’s arrivals in Orcières. Like the one in 1989, during the time trial at the Gap – Orcières, Greg Lemond took over the yellow jersey from Laurent Fignon on the climb!
In winter, the resort is famous for its sunny ski area up to 2725m and its offer of off-ski activities.

The inaugural UCI 1.2 men elite pro race “Gran Premio New York City” will be held on May 19, 2024 on the same course and same day as the 12th annual mass participation race “Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC”.
World premiere
Holding a professional and mass-participation race at the same time on the same course is an event format never held before in cycling, although it’s commonly done in running and triathlon. GFNY is taking a revolutionary step to bring professional and mass participation racing together to augment both race fields and take advantage of existing operations, logistics and exposure. Something seemingly obvious for other endurance sports, yet not done in cycling.
In this revolutionary format for cycling, the 180 pros from 25 teams will line up 15 minutes before the 5000 amateurs on the closed-to-traffic lower level of the world’s busiest bridge, George Washington Bridge on May 19, 2024. Both races will follow the one-loop, 137 km (85-mile) GFNY course through Bergen County, NJ and Rockland County, NY with 2000 m (6500 ft) of climbing.
“Adding a pro race to GFNY mass participation races has been in the making since 2014,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “This new format of pros and amateurs racing together aims to revolutionize cycling where both traditionally race in separate events. Having the pros take on the same course as the amateurs, just minutes ahead of them, will bring the racing fans closer to their heroes and elevate the event experience for all riders, spectators and sponsors.”
Women’s pro race
A women’s pro race is in the planning as well but isn’t confirmed until a sponsor is found. The women’s race would start 45 minutes ahead of the men’s professional race and provide the women their own stage as part of this iconic international event. If your company or organization is interested in supporting womenracing, please contact GFNY.
Further GFNY pro races
GFNY plans to add further UCI pro races to several of the other currently 30+ GFNYs around the world. At the top of the list are the GFNY races Miami, Cozumel, Republica Dominicana, Cannes, Kuala Lumpur and Vaujany-L’Alpe d’Huez.
The teams
25 teams from over 15 countries will make GP NYC an exciting race. European Pro Tour teams with Grand Tour pedigree will lead the field, followed by Continental Pro teams from the Americas, Europe and Asia. Local Pro teams will round out the field and get to measure themselves with the best. Ten contracts are already signed and ten more are in the final stages. Interested pro teams have little time left to apply to be a part of the first UCI pro road race in NYC before the field is full.
New York City
New York City is the center for finance, commerce, fashion and international relations, earning its title as the capital of the world. It’s only fitting that NYC hosts an international professional cycling race, the Gran Premio New York City. The teams attending will be an international mix from over 15 countries, and the GP NYC course will serve as an incredible stage to showcase cycling to the world.
GFNY is preparing communication with participating professional teams around cheering for their national heroes who are racing.
The course
Both the pro and amateur races are held on the same one-loop course of 85 miles (137 km) and 6,500ft (2000m) of climbing that has the characteristics of a Belgian spring classic which favors all-rounders.
The races start on the closed-to-traffic George Washington Bridge, the world’s busiest bridge. The start area looking over the NYC skyline, suspended over the Hudson River, with upbeat music, interviews, announcements and pre-race excitement offers the most amazing race start in cycling.
The course passes through charming towns, beautiful nature and challenging climbs of Bergen County and Rockland County and the metropolitan life of the world’s capital, New York City.
The race’s finish line and post-race festival are located in Fort Lee, NJ, providing easy access to NYC, airports, hotels, restaurants, highways, and more.
Live broadcast
Both the pro race Gran Premio NYC and the mass participation race Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC will be broadcast live online and onsite on a jumbo screen at the festival village. Fans at the race as well as all over the world can follow their favorite pro and their friends live.
Weekend activations
Fans get to interact with the pros in several ways during race weekend. The Team Presentation is planned to be held at Times Square and riders will be available for autograph sessions and even group rides.
The 12th annual NYC Bike Expo, held together with the packet pickup for riders at the GFNY Festival Village in Fort Lee on May 17 and 18, will be the hub for all activities and provide companies the opportunity to showcase their products to an attractive demographic.
During race week leading up to the professional race, guests can enjoy a variety of exclusive experiences, from a Welcome Reception in Manhattan, a Team Presentation ceremony, the Hospitality Suite at the Michelob ULTRA GFNY NYC post-race festival village, to a Champions’ post-race dinner. Besides photo opportunities and great food and conversation, the unique experiences will provide many new connections, friendships and memories.
Homestays
Homestays have long been a mainstay of endurance sports. For families interested in assisting an athlete from out of town, GFNY is seeking out and coordinating the homestays for pro riders.
Hosting a pro is a great opportunity to see how they prepare for the race. It helps the smaller teams to cope with the accommodation costs involved with attending a distant race, and often a homestay is the difference between being able to come to the race or not. Following the pro’s race day on the live broadcast, seeing their good and bad moments and hearing their post-race stories gives the host a deeper connection to the race.
Sponsorship
The format of this event, with a professional race and a large-scale international mass participation race taking place on the same course at the same time, is providing an unparalleled exposure opportunity.
Cycling embodies the two most relevant topics of our time: health and the environment. GFNY adds to your company as a brand concerned with and engaged in these topics.
If your company or organization is interested to align with this modern health & eco brand, GFNY, as well as be a part of this revolutionary, inaugural, unparalleled event, please reach out to GFNY. There are a variety of experiential, engagement and visibility opportunities available, both in-person and via the live broadcast.

New York City, November 17, 2023 – The completely closed to traffic 157.5km cycling long race course of the 10th GFNY Cozumel is flat yet windy and as such one of the toughest bike races in Latin America. 3000 riders were ready to race hard and play hard, entirely taking over the tropical paradise island for one day.
The race started off extremely fast, reaching speeds of over 55 km/h in the first kilometres. Right from the start, a group of nine riders formed the peloton including several GFNY champions: defending Cozumel champ Chris Hans, Team GFNY pros Flavio de Luna (Mexico City 2017) and Olympian Luis Lemus (Cozumel 2015), Mario Zamora (Cozumel 2018), Edwin Morel (runner-up Sebring 2023), Salvador Lemus (runner-up GFNY Zapopan) and former mexican TT champion Nacho Prado.
The group worked together well and quickly created a gap of over two minutes in the first of two laps. With 20km to go, the gap had increased to over 5 minutes. Lemus attacked and De Luna and Hans were the only two riders managing to bridge across.
With 5km to go, the three started attacking each other, with team mates Lemus and De Luna trying to drop Hans. But it came down to the sprint: De Luna took the win in 3:40:21 ahead of Hans and Lemus who rounded the all Mexican podium.
In the female race, Ana María Hernandez defended her title once again, ahead of Jacqueline Tamez and Anet Barrera (all Mexico).
“If you haven’t seen the aerial photo of the start line, look it up,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “It’s a sight to behold: riders in green jerseys as far as the eye can reach – and then some more beyond the edge of the photo. What an incredible celebration of what’s best about road cycling. Everyone gets to Be a Pro for a Day.”
Next up on the GFNY calendar is the 2nd edition of GFNY Quito which will take place on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Cecilia Caillabet and Luis Cruz took the win at the 3rd edition
New York City, November 1, 2023 – Historic Colonia in Uruguay hosted the third edition of GFNY Colonia this past Sunday. The racecourse was 148.6km long with an elevation gain of 1129m.
The race started fast despite the persistent rain and strong crosswinds, a true spring classic of the southern hemisphere. Right from the start, a group of fifty riders formed the peloton.
During the 3km climb of Cerro San Juan, 14 riders managed to break away, including defending champion Cecilia Caillabet (Argentina), Mario Rubin (Argentina) and Venezuelans Alejandro Ovalles and Luis Cruz.
After a string of attacks and with 30 kms left to the finish line, Cruz and Rubin managed to escape from the lead group. It was Cruz who took the win in a head to head sprint in 4:05:06 against Rubin and Ovalles.

New York City, October 26, 2023 – This Sunday, the 3rd GFNY Colonia Uruguay offers racers a fast 148.6km road race with 1129m of climbing where the winds of the Uruguayan coastline will be the main challenge.
“GFNY was the first to organize a granfondo in Uruguay back in March 2016 at GFNY Punta del Este,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “And riders in the triangle of Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil have been welcoming GFNY Colonia since 2021 as the new opening race of their Southern hemisphere race season. The team around Andres Borras and Nestor Pinon works relentlessly to offer riders a world class experience.”
Race week activities will take place at BIT centre. On Sunday, riders will race a beautiful course surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and cattle country. This natural environment of the Uruguay River´s east bank is home of several iconic landmarks of the historic heritage of European settlers. There will be a pasta party at the finish area and awards ceremony where the race winners will receive an entry to the GFNY World Championship NYC in May 2024.
