GFNY’s second California race scheduled for April 18, 2027

New York City, May 6, 2026 – GFNY is proud to announce Michelob ULTRA GFNY Walnut Creek – California, set for April 18, 2027. The event expands GFNY’s presence in California and brings the series’ Be A Pro For A Day race experience to the East Bay, positioning Walnut Creek as a premier destination for competitive cycling.

The long distance race covers 104 km (64.4 miles) with 2,100 meters (6,900 feet) of elevation gain, culminating in the decisive ascent of Mount Diablo. The 11-mile (17.7 km) climb to the summit ranks among the most iconic in the United States, gaining over 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) with pitches reaching 18%.

In a rare distinction for a climb of this stature, Mount Diablo will be fully closed to traffic for the event. The official finish line is located at the summit, rewarding riders with panoramic views across Northern California.

The medium distance option focuses on the direct challenge: a shorter, direct route from Walnut Creek straight to the summit of Mount Diablo.

Following their summit finish, riders will descend back to Shadelands SportsMall, where the finish village hosts the post-race meal, awards ceremony, and race festivities.

Walnut Creek offers exactly what we look for in a host city: a sophisticated, welcoming base with immediate access to world-class riding,” said GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “Mount Diablo is one of the great climbs in American cycling, and closing it fully to traffic elevates it into something truly exceptional.”

The race will start at Shadelands SportsMall, which will serve as race week headquarters, hosting packet pickup and the GFNY Expo. Group rides on Friday and Saturday will give participants the opportunity to preview the course and connect ahead of race day.

Walnut Creek combines a high-quality urban environment with immediate access to the East Bay’s extensive cycling network. Beyond race day, participants and their families can take advantage of outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and one of Northern California’s leading dining and shopping scenes.

Michelob ULTRA GFNY Walnut Creek delivers a demanding course and a distinctive race experience anchored by one of the most iconic, fully closed climbs in the country.

The GFNY Pro Series places UCI-sanctioned professional races directly alongside GFNY mass-participation events using the same courses and the same road closures.

GFNY is coming to Canada

GFNY announces

GFNY Ottawa – Canada
September 13, 2026

The Course

Race week activities, the start, the finish and the post-race activities all take place aside the Richcraft Recreation Complex, in the Katana North tech hub. The course travels on rural roads in the Katana neighborhood and offers GFNY riders a fully closed-to-cars cycling route, with start-to-finish timing, two aid stations for the medium route and four aid stations for the long route riders.

The course is relatively flat, with many gentle inclines, which will provide a fast race but the undulation will split the pelotons. With a flat and fast start, the urban landscape quickly disappears between sharp, technical turns that take you rapidly into scenic, wooded rural areas.

Upon reaching Marchurst Road, you’ll cover 7km of a straight road on a false flat. The course has some turns, but also longer straight sections, providing ideal conditions to work with a group and enjoy the fully closed-to-cars route with ample stationary police and police on motorbikes.

Before reaching the u-turn at the far north portion of the course, there is a 3km climb with 50m ascent and a max grade of 4.5%. After a right-hand U-turn there is a short descent.

At Fifth Line Road, you climb and descend a ridge near Constance Lake. Being so close to the river, crosswinds are almost a guarantee. Stick to a group, draft, and conserve your energy.

Once you return to March Road, near the start, the race splits. While the Medium Course diverts toward the finish line, those on the Long Course begin their second loop. This is where the energy management from the first lap makes the difference. The second loop will provide a different experience from the first: the dynamic of the group you’ve formed in the second group, plus the 60km of distance raced will add to the challenge.

At the end of the loop, make a left onto Wild Acre Ln and prepare for the final sprint to the finish line at the Richcraft Recreation Complex. Awaiting you at the finish line will be medals, a finish line aid station, a post-race meal, music, festivities and the awards ceremony. Hang out and celebrate your day and achievements with friends, clubmates and family.

Long Route – 118.3 km / 784 m+

Medium Route – 66.5 km / 456 m+

About Ottawa

Ottawa is the majestic capital city of Canada, defined by the confluence of the Ottawa, Rideau, and Gatineau rivers. The city is known for extensive green spaces, including the Capital Pathway network, Gatineau Park, and the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the summer, the Rideau Canal’s banks become a lush, green corridor for outdoor enthusiasts, while in winter, it transforms into the world’s largest naturally frozen skating rink — a true symbol of the city’s active, year-round spirit.

Originally founded as a rugged lumber settlement called Bytown, Ottawa has evolved into a political and cultural center without losing its approachable, welcoming feel. The skyline is dominated by the stunning Gothic Revival architecture of Parliament Hill, which is Canada’s political center and celebrates Canadian democracy, heritage, and unity. The city offers a unique blend of grand national history and local flavor. There is no better place to experience that local flavor than at ByWard Market. ByWard Market is one of Canada’s oldest public markets where artisans, restaurants, and specialty shops attract over 50,000 visitors per weekend during the June-October peak season to enjoy shopping, cuisine, galleries, urban art, a year-round farmers’ market, nightlife and cafes.

Ottawa is a premier destination for anyone who loves the outdoors, making it the perfect host for GFNY. Plan extra days to explore the charm of the various neighborhoods, take a boat across the river, or explore Ottawa by bike on some of the 800km (500 miles) of urban and rural pathways. GFNY athletes will experience a race that balances the elegance of the historic capital city with the scenic nature, making it an unforgettable experience.

GFNY is coming to Canada

Inaugural GFNY Ottawa to be held September 13, 2026

New York City, April 29, 2026 – GFNY is proud to announce its first ever race in Canada: the inaugural GFNY Ottawa is scheduled for September 13, 2026. The event will bring the GFNY race experience to Canada’s capital.

“Ottawa Tourism is proud to welcome GFNY to Canada’s capital for its first-ever Canadian based event this fall” says Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism.  “As an internationally recognized road racing brand, this event will elevate Ottawa on to the world cycling stage and deliver significant economic impact to our city. Ottawa will no doubt deliver an exceptional athlete and visitor experience supported by our cycling community, vibrant neighbourhoods, and unique cultural experiences”.

The competitive long distance race will cover 118.3 km with 784 m of climbing, while the recreational medium distance race will cover 66 km, offering riders of all levels the opportunity to experience a professionally organized race on fully closed roads.

“We’re excited to finally bring GFNY to Canada,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “And having our first GFNY in the capital of the country is a tremendous honor for our organization. A fully closed to traffic course will offer our riders a spectacular experience.”

Race week activities, including the start, finish, and post-race celebrations, will take place at the Richcraft Recreation Complex in the Kanata North tech hub.

The course travels along rural roads in the Kanata area, offering riders a fully closed-to-traffic route with start-to-finish chip timing, two aid stations for the medium distance, and four for the long distance. Relatively flat with gentle rolling terrain, the course lends itself to a fast race while still being selective enough to split the peloton. After a flat and fast start, riders quickly leave the urban landscape behind, entering scenic wooded countryside through a series of technical turns and open roads ideal for group riding.

GFNY participants and their families will enjoy Ottawa as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors are encouraged to extend their stay to explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods, take a boat ride along the river, or ride through more than 800 km (500 miles) of urban and rural pathways. GFNY Ottawa offers a unique race experience that combines the elegance of a historic capital with the beauty of its surrounding nature.

Their addition further strengthens an already competitive field of elite and professional teams set to compete in the UCI-sanctioned race, held alongside the 14th edition of the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City.

Gran Premio New York City (GP NYC) will take place on May 17, 2026, as a UCI-sanctioned professional road race held on the same course and on the same day as the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City. The professional peloton will start approximately ten minutes ahead of the mass-participation field.

“As an American team you can’t say no to a race that starts in iconic New York City – and we’re coming to GPNYC to win!” says Team APS Pro Cycling by Team Cadence Cyclery Director, Chris Daggs. “We have riders who can sprint and riders who can be off the front on this challenging course. We’d love to be on that podium at the end of the day and our American riders have this day marked on their calendars.”

“The opportunity to compete at the highest level in the country, on our home roads, means a great deal to us,” says Good Guys Racing NYC Managing Director Cormac Daly. “We take pride in representing our city and being part of an event that uniquely brings together professional racing and the wider cycling community through GFNY. We want to be active in early moves but also be ready for the decisive split over Gate Hill and Cheescote which animates the race, and ultimately put ourselves in a position to compete for the win!”

About GFNY

GFNY is an international cycling organization that designs, owns, and operates a structured system of races worldwide. Its competitive hierarchy connects GFNY races with National and Continental Championships, culminating in the GFNY World Championship in New York City. This progression is known as the GFNY Road to NYC.

GFNY events feature fully timed racing with age-group competition and are open to a wide range of riders, combining competitive structure with accessible participation. GFNY operates its own integrated registration, results, and ranking system, maintaining direct relationships with participants across all events. While road cycling is its foundation, GFNY also operates select events in gravel, mountain bike, and running within the same competitive framework.

The official GFNY website is: gfny.com.

About the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC

The Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City is GFNY’s flagship race and the final step on the GFNY Road to NYC.

Held annually on a challenging road course in and around New York City, the event brings together riders from more than 90 countries who have earned their place through GFNY races and championships worldwide.

The official website of the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC is

NYC.GFNY.COM.

GFNY Pro Series

The GFNY Pro Series places UCI-sanctioned professional races directly alongside GFNY mass-participation events using the same courses and the same road closures.

Professional fields start minutes ahead of the GFNY mass peloton, creating a shared race environment while maintaining clear competitive separation. This format increases visibility for teams and sponsors and allows professional racing to operate within existing event infrastructure.

The model was first implemented at Gran Premio New York City, where professional teams race the GFNY World Championship course shortly before the amateur start. GP NYC serves as the template for future Pro Series events.

The GFNY Pro Series expands selectively. Additional UCI races are added only where local conditions, funding, and infrastructure support sustainable professional competition. Planned events include Gran Premio Cozumel, held in conjunction with GFNY Cozumel, pending UCI approval.

GFNY is also evaluating the addition of women’s professional racing within the Pro Series, beginning with a potential women’s race in New York City, developed in partnership with organizations supporting the growth of women’s pro cycling.

The official website of the GFNY Pro Series’ flagship event, Gran Premio New York City, is gp.gfny.com.

GFNY announces Michelob Ultra GFNY Ventura-California

GFNY announces

GFNY Ventura – California
April 11, 2027

The Course

The race headquarters, packet pickup, start and celebratory finish all take place at Mission Park, located in the heart of the lively Downtown Ventura, which boasts 65 restaurants and over 110 stores.

From Mission Park, you will take on a majestic loop, which will take you through the cities of Ventura, Santa Paula and Ojai, as well as through scenic and open areas of Ventura County. The first part of the loop is slightly undulating, until you reach Santa Paula. From Santa Paula, you’ll take on the day’s longest climb, Dennison Grade, which is 8-miles long with 1300ft of climbing and a 2.9% avg and 7% max incline. The descent that follows is gentle and enjoyable: 16 miles long and a -1.9% avg. Breeze through the Ojai Valley, which is bordered to the north by Los Padres National Forest and the Topatopa Mountains and enjoy the breathtaking views of canyons, mountains and nature.

At the end of the descent, medium route riders will continue on back to Ventura, while the long route riders will turn right and head to a 40-mile out-and back section to Carpinteria in Santa Barbara County. From the course split, it’s just 2 miles to go until the Timing Finish.

On the out-and-back segment, the long route riders will pass by the beautiful Lake Casitas before climbing Casitas Pass from the east side. As you descend along the winding road from the top of the pass, you will climb two counter-climbs before making the loop turn in the city of Carpinteria. From here, you’ll face the last challenge of the day: Casitas Pass from the Carpinteria side, which is 5.5 miles long and 1250ft of climbing with 3.2% avg and 11% max incline. The last 15 miles from the top of Casitas Pass are a net downhill, but include some rolling hills.

The Timing Finish for both the medium and long route takes place on Crooked Palm Road. There will be a refreshment station with water, electrolyte drink, soda, ice and basic snacks. From here, you’ll ride 3 miles on the peaceful bike trail and enjoy a comfortable -1% decline that leads you directly back to Downtown Ventura, less than half a mile from Mission Park.

Back at Mission Park, your Celebratory Finish Line awaits you, and the big photo op moment back where you started the day. You will get your finisher medal at the Celebratory Finish Line at Mission Park. The festival area welcomes athletes and supporters to enjoy the music, the post-race meal, relaxation, the awards ceremony and all post-race festivities.

Long Route – 140.7 km / 1986 m+

Medium Route – 75.4 km / 747 m+

About Ventura

The city of Ventura, officially known as San Buenaventura, is a coastal gem located along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, about an hour north of Los Angeles. It is famously home to the San Buenaventura Mission, founded in 1782, which served as the historic heart around which the city grew. Today, Ventura is celebrated for its laid-back California vibe, stunning Mediterranean climate, and its deep connection to the ocean, anchored by the historic Ventura Pier — one of the longest wooden piers in the state.

Ventura serves as the primary gateway to the Channel Islands National Park, often called the “Galapagos of North America.” From the Ventura Harbor, visitors can embark on journeys to these remote islands, which host unique species and rugged landscapes. The city’s downtown is a walkable blend of vintage charm and modern culture, featuring beautifully preserved Victorian and Spanish Revival architecture, local boutiques, and a thriving farm-to-table culinary scene.

For cyclists, Ventura is a true paradise. It offers a diverse terrain that ranges from breezy coastal paths like the Rincon Bike Trail to the challenging climbs of the Los Padres National Forest and the nearby Ojai Valley. With its wide-open roads, breathtaking ocean views, and a community that lives outdoors, Ventura provides an epic backdrop for GFNY Ventura, making it an unforgettable destination for athletes and their families alike.

By plane:

Ventura is conveniently located near three main airports, offering different options depending on your travel logistics:

  • Los Angeles International (LAX): 70 miles south, this is the best option for international flights, offering great flexibility and extensive flight schedule for the majority of the airlines.
  • Burbank Hollywood Airport (BUR): 60 miles southeast, a convenient mid-sized alternative. Flights operated mainly by Southwest, Alaska Air, a handful of flights from American Airlines, United, Delta and Jetblue. A traveler favorite, offering a convenient and fast alternative for your trip. Best of all, it has a direct connection to Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink trains, which go straight to downtown Ventura without the need for a rental car.
  • Santa Barbara Airport (SBA): 37 miles north, the closest and most stress-free option. Flights operated mainly by Southwest, Alaska Air, a handful of flights from American Airlines, United and Delta. The Goleta Amtrak station is just a 5 minute Uber ride away. From there, the Pacific Surfliner train goes straight to downtown Ventura. It’s a very easy and beautiful trip next to the ocean.

By train:
