Colombian Power and Spanish Speed at GFNY Bahamas
Sandoval solos to victory while Ferrer wins the women’s sprint

New York City, October 21, 2026 – Nassau, the vibrant capital of The Bahamas, hosted the third edition of GFNY Bahamas last Sunday. Cyclists from around the world raced along a fast and scenic 60.8-mile course, taking in spectacular Caribbean coastline views. The race started and finished at Goodman’s Bay Park, overlooking the island’s turquoise waters.
A lead group of 22 riders formed shortly after the start, setting the stage for an aggressive race. Colombia’s Edwin Sandoval launched the first attack at mile 15 but was quickly brought back. Undeterred, he attacked again at mile 30, this time successfully breaking away with local rider Luany Duncombe.
By the time the duo passed the airport, they were out of sight of the chasing group. With Duncombe unable to match his pace, Sandoval eventually dropped his breakaway companion and continued alone. At Jaw’s Beach, with 15 miles remaining, he had built a lead of more than two minutes over a reduced chase group of 14 riders.
Sandoval crossed the finish line in 2:32:47 to claim an impressive solo victory. American Alexander Lukovych won the sprint for second place ahead of Colombia’s Daniel Arturo Vanegas, with the chasers finishing 1:20 behind the winner. Among the standout performances was 12-year-old American Max Fluhme, who stayed with the chase group until just 10 miles from the finish before eventually placing 16th overall.
In the women’s race, American Jenny Krause (Riptide Racing) repeatedly tried to break away from Spain’s Mariela Ferrer. However, Ferrer matched every move, setting up a sprint finish in which the Spaniard prevailed to take the win in 2:35:47. Mexico’s Tonia Segovia Martinez completed the podium.
“GFNY Bahamas combines competitive racing with a spectacular destination, bringing cyclists and their families from around the world to experience The Bahamas,” said GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “We’re grateful for the continued support of the Ministry of Tourism and look forward to growing the event and bringing even more international visitors to the islands.”
Next on the GFNY calendar is the seventh edition of GFNY Florida on October 25, 2026. The race moves from Sebring to neighboring Hardee County this year, offering riders a new venue for one of GFNY’s established US events.
