NEW YORK CITY, March 4, 2026 – Canel’s–Java has confirmed it will return to the third edition of Gran Premio New York City on May 17, 2026. The Mexican Continental team remains a key contender in the GPNYC and is expected to play a prominent role in this year’s race.

The two events are conducted as separate competitions under their respective regulations, sharing the same roads and infrastructure.

Sprint finish at GFNY Salinas

Teran and Romero win the inaugural edition

New York City, March 3, 2026 – The coastal city of Salinas hosted the inaugural edition of GFNY Ecuador Salinas this past Sunday. The race featured a 110.8 km course with 878 m of climbing and drew strong participation from both national and international riders.

Riders rolled out at 7:00 am under grey skies for a 2 km neutralized section before the official start at Cerro “El Morro” in La Chocolatera, inside the Salinas Naval Base. Rain and dense fog set the tone early, while crosswinds along the exposed Mar Bravo coastline and the Perimetral road fractured the peloton and turned the race into an attritional battle.

Men’s Race

Ecuadorian rider Javier Romero animated the race with a decisive solo move that opened a gap of more than one minute over the main contenders. Among those driving the chase was two-time GFNY Ecuador champion Renzo Molineros (2022, 2024).

The race came down to the demanding final ascent back to Cerro “El Morro.” In a dramatic head-to-head sprint on the climb, Romero prevailed, taking victory in 2:23:53. Molineros secured second place, while Gregorio Bravo completed an all-Ecuadorian podium.

Women’s Race

In the women’s competition, Andrea Terán (Ecuador) delivered a commanding ride to take the overall victory in 2:30:13. Alva Jiménez (Colombia) and Andrea Logroño (Ecuador) rounded out the podium approximately ten minutes behind the winner after a selective and weather-impacted race.

Next on the global schedule is the eighth edition of GFNY Punta del Este in Uruguay on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Inside the peloton at GFNY Miami, every rider has a reason for being there. From first-time racers to seasoned competitors, each story is fueled by preparation, persistence, and the pursuit of a personal goal.

Inside the Peloton takes you beyond the start line and into the real experiences of the athletes like Abel Fernández who make GFNY Miami more than just a race, it’s a shared journey on closed roads under the Miami sun.

This is his story:

My name is Abel Fernández, a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army. Late last year, I decided to try something completely new—cycling. With little to no training, I signed up for my first race in Maryland. I didn’t really know what to expect. I just wanted to challenge myself and hopefully have some fun.
What I got was something much bigger.

The race was incredibly tough—far harder than I imagined. Every mile tested me physically and mentally. But instead of discouraging me, it gave me a deep respect for the sport and the athletes who dedicate themselves to it. That experience changed something in me. I was hooked.

Since then, cycling has become part of my routine and my mindset. I now train four to five times a week, constantly pushing to improve, embracing the discipline and grind that feels familiar from my Army career. The structure, the resilience, the commitment—it all connects.

Now, I’m looking ahead to my first race of 2026 in Miami, Florida. I’m especially excited because GFNY hosts some of the best and most organized races out there. This time, I won’t be lining up underprepared. I’ll be ready—not just to finish, but to compete.

What started as curiosity has become passion. And this is only the beginning.

Join Abel at Michelob ULTRA GFNY Miami on April 17!

The initiative reinforces GFNY’s commitment to developing future talent worldwide

NEW YORK CITY, February 19, 2026 – GFNY Global Platform is expanding youth participation by introducing U18 and U16 categories at select events worldwide. The initiative creates a structured and professionally managed pathway for young athletes to experience the intensity and organization of a GFNY race.

All youth participants compete within GFNY’s professionally managed race environment, including closed-road or controlled-course operations, on-course medical support, and trained race marshals throughout the route.

Confirmed Rollout

The U18 and U16 categories are confirmed for all 2026 GFNY races in the United States and The Bahamas. In Bremen, Germany, only the U18 category will be offered due to the absence of a non-competitive route. More GFNYs with U18 and U16 categories will be announced shortly.

Like many initiatives at GFNY, this one is personal,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “When I was 16, I would have loved the chance to race a GFNY. Recently, we tested the concept at GFNY Cozumel, where my 12-year-old completed the medium distance alongside my wife and GFNY co-founder Lidia. That experience motivated us to revisit the liability framework. We were able to resolve the hurdles for many events.”

U18 Category

Riders with a racing age of 16–17 may compete on the competitive distance or participate on the non-competitive distance. Racing age is determined by the athlete’s age on December 31 of the event year.

For example:

  • An athlete who is 15 on race day but turns 16 before December 31 competes as a 16-year-old and may choose either long or medium distance.
  • An athlete who turns 18 by December 31 competes in the 18–34 age group.

U18 finishers are official finishers and appear in race results according to the distance completed:

  • Medium distance: listed alphabetically with finish time
  • Long distance: ranked overall and within the U18 age group

U18 athletes earn GFNY Rankings points under the same formula as all competitors, accumulating both Overall Rankings and U18 Age Group Rankings points.

U18 athletes who finish the long course may earn Qualifier status, valid for 380 days from the date earned. This status can be used at any GFNY race worldwide that offers a U18 category.

As increasing numbers of riders transition directly from junior ranks into professional pathways, the depth of road-race exposure differs widely by country. In many regions, junior racing is predominantly criterium-based. The U18 category at GFNY introduces young athletes to the demands of full-distance road racing, including unfamiliar terrain, environmental variability, pacing over extended distances, and independent fueling strategy—core competencies required at higher levels of the sport.

U16 Category

U16 athletes may participate exclusively on the non-competitive distance. For safety and supervision, a parent or legal guardian must ride with the athlete at all times and must also be registered for the event.

For both U18 and U16 athletes, a parent or legal guardian must appear in person at race packet pickup and present a photocopy of a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver license, or identity document).

With these youth categories, GFNY continues expanding its global racing platform while maintaining professional race standards and clearly defined competitive structures.

Full eligibility details and race-specific information are available at gfny.com and on individual race websites.

Gran Premio New York City Returns for Third Edition in 2026

The UCI pro race is held together with GFNY’s 14th NYC edition

NEW YORK CITY, February 11, 2026 – The third edition of Gran Premio New York City (GP NYC), will take place on May 17, 2026, bringing UCI-sanctioned professional road racing back to New York City on one of the most demanding one-day courses in North America.

GP NYC is held on the same course and on the same day as the 14th Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City, with the professional field starting approximately ten minutes ahead of the mass-participation race. The two events are conducted as separate competitions under their respective regulations, sharing the same roads and infrastructure.

Gran Premio New York City is built on the idea that professional racing and open racing don’t have to exist in isolation,” said co-founder and CEO of GFNY Uli Fluhme.  “In other parts of the sport, including gravel, mixed-field formats are already a reality and are valued by teams, riders, and host cities. In New York City, we’re applying that principle step by step on the road, starting with proximity and building toward greater integration while maintaining sporting and operational integrity.”

New York City as the Stage

Founded in 2011, GFNY has grown into a global competitive structure culminating each year in New York City. Gran Premio New York City represents the professional expression of that structure and demonstrates how professional racing can take place alongside mass participation without mixing rules, fields, or objectives.

The Course

The 85-mile (137 km) course mimics a Belgian spring classic, favoring all-around riders with its challenging climbs and varied terrain. While waiting for their start on the George Washington Bridge, racers enjoy spectacular views of the NYC skyline and the Hudson River. The race continues through charming towns and scenic nature in Bergen County and Rockland County, with the excitement culminating in a finish and festival at Fort Lee, NJ—a convenient location close to NYC, airports, hotels, and highways.

More news to come

Further details regarding participating teams, course specifics, and race logistics will be announced in the coming months.

GFNY is also evaluating the addition of women’s professional racing within the Pro Series, beginning with a potential women’s race in New York City, developed in partnership with organizations supporting the growth of women’s pro cycling.

The official website of the GFNY Pro Series’ flagship event, Gran Premio New York City, is gp.gfny.com.

Team Skyline returns to Gran Premio New York City 2026

The UCI pro race is held together with GFNY’s 14th NYC edition

NEW YORK CITY, February 18, 2026 – Team Skyline has confirmed its participation in the third edition of Gran Premio New York City, returning to New York City on May 17, 2026 after producing last year’s race winner.

Gran Premio New York City (GP NYC), will take place on May 17, 2026, as a UCI-sanctioned professional road race held on the same course and on the same day as the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City,, with the professional field starting approximately ten minutes ahead of the mass-participation race. The two events are conducted as separate competitions under their respective regulations, sharing the same roads and infrastructure.

GP NYC is a fun and rewarding race,” says team director Michael Tacci. “Last year, we won the race and placed two more riders in the top 15. We must defend the title.”

Further team announcements will be made in the coming weeks. Additional race information is available at gp.gfny.com.

About GFNY Global Platform

GFNY Global Platform organizes competitive road cycling races around the world, linking local events with National and Continental Championships and a single World Championship held in New York City.

Riders start at GFNY races and progress through the championship levels based on performance. This structure—known as the GFNY Road to NYC—connects everyday racing with a clear and earned path to the World Championship. All GFNY races are fully timed and run with age-group classification. Events are open to a broad range of riders and combine accessible participation with a consistent competitive format.

GFNY’s long-standing “BE A PRO FOR A DAY®” concept reflects how its races are designed: standardized rules, professional-level timing, and racing against both the clock and direct competitors. GFNY manages its own global rider system, handling registration, results, rankings, and historical participation data directly across all events. While road cycling is its foundation, GFNY also runs select gravel, mountain bike, and running events using the same operational standards.

GFNY works with host cities and local partners worldwide, focusing on athlete experience, operational consistency, and the long-term continuity of its championship structure.

The official GFNY website is: gfny.com.

GFNY Pro Series

The GFNY Pro Series places UCI-sanctioned professional races directly alongside GFNY mass-participation events using the same courses and the same road closures.

Professional fields start minutes ahead of the GFNY mass peloton, creating a shared race environment while maintaining clear competitive separation. This format increases visibility for teams and sponsors and allows professional racing to operate within existing event infrastructure.

The model was first implemented at Gran Premio New York City, where professional teams race the GFNY World Championship course shortly before the amateur start. GP NYC serves as the template for future Pro Series events.
