Gran Premio New York City (GP NYC), will take place on May 17, 2026, as a UCI-sanctioned professional road race held on the same course and on the same day as the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City,, with the professional field starting approximately ten minutes ahead of the mass-participation race. The two events are conducted as separate competitions under their respective regulations, sharing the same roads and infrastructure.

GP NYC is a fun and rewarding race,” says team director Michael Tacci. “Last year, we won the race and placed two more riders in the top 15. We must defend the title.”

New York City as the Stage

Founded in 2011, GFNY has grown into a global competitive structure culminating each year in New York City. The Course

The 85-mile (137 km) course mimics a Belgian spring classic, favoring all-around riders with its challenging climbs and varied terrain. While waiting for their start on the George Washington Bridge, racers enjoy spectacular views of the NYC skyline and the Hudson River. The race continues through charming towns and scenic nature in Bergen County and Rockland County, with the excitement culminating in a finish and festival at Fort Lee, NJ—a convenient location close to NYC, airports, hotels, and highways.

About GFNY Global Platform

GFNY Global Platform organizes competitive road cycling races around the world, linking local events with National and Continental Championships and a single World Championship held in New York City.

Riders start at GFNY races and progress through the championship levels based on performance. This structure—known as the GFNY Road to NYC—connects everyday racing with a clear and earned path to the World Championship. All GFNY races are fully timed and run with age-group classification. Events are open to a broad range of riders and combine accessible participation with a consistent competitive format.

GFNY’s long-standing “BE A PRO FOR A DAY®” concept reflects how its races are designed: standardized rules, professional-level timing, and racing against both the clock and direct competitors. GFNY manages its own global rider system, handling registration, results, rankings, and historical participation data directly across all events. While road cycling is its foundation, GFNY also runs select gravel, mountain bike, and running events using the same operational standards.

GFNY works with host cities and local partners worldwide, focusing on athlete experience, operational consistency, and the long-term continuity of its championship structure.

Held annually on a challenging road course in and around New York City, the event brings together riders from more than 90 countries who have earned their place through GFNY races and championships worldwide.

GFNY Pro Series

The GFNY Pro Series places UCI-sanctioned professional races directly alongside GFNY mass-participation events using the same courses and the same road closures.

Professional fields start minutes ahead of the GFNY mass peloton, creating a shared race environment while maintaining clear competitive separation. This format increases visibility for teams and sponsors and allows professional racing to operate within existing event infrastructure.

The model was first implemented at Gran Premio New York City, where professional teams race the GFNY World Championship course shortly before the amateur start. GP NYC serves as the template for future Pro Series events.

The GFNY Pro Series expands selectively. Additional UCI races are added only where local conditions, funding, and infrastructure support sustainable professional competition. Planned events include Gran Premio Cozumel, held in conjunction with GFNY Cozumel, pending UCI approval.

GFNY is also evaluating the addition of women’s professional racing within the Pro Series, beginning with a potential women’s race in New York City, developed in partnership with organizations supporting the growth of women’s pro cycling.

Gran Premio New York City Returns for Third Edition in 2026

The UCI pro race is held together with GFNY’s 14th NYC edition

NEW YORK CITY, February 11, 2026 – The third edition of Gran Premio New York City (GP NYC), will take place on May 17, 2026, bringing UCI-sanctioned professional road racing back to New York City on one of the most demanding one-day courses in North America.

GP NYC is held on the same course and on the same day as the 14th Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship New York City, with the professional field starting approximately ten minutes ahead of the mass-participation race. The two events are conducted as separate competitions under their respective regulations, sharing the same roads and infrastructure.

Gran Premio New York City is built on the idea that professional racing and open racing don’t have to exist in isolation,” said co-founder and CEO of GFNY Uli Fluhme.  “In other parts of the sport, including gravel, mixed-field formats are already a reality and are valued by teams, riders, and host cities. In New York City, we’re applying that principle step by step on the road, starting with proximity and building toward greater integration while maintaining sporting and operational integrity.”

At its core is a clearly defined competitive hierarchy—from GFNY races to National and Continental Championships—culminating in the GFNY World Championship in New York City. This progression is collectively known as the GFNY Road to NYC, offering riders a consistent and earned route from local competition to a global championship event.

Participants race on fully timed courses and compete within their age groups.

GFNY events are open to a wide range of riders and are designed to combine competitive structure with accessible participation.

GFNY’s long-standing “BE A PRO FOR A DAY®” concept reflects its emphasis on timed competition, standardized rules, and age-group racing.

GFNY operates a fully integrated rider platform, maintaining direct relationships with participants and full control of registration, results, rankings, and historical participation data across all events worldwide. GFNY Pro Series

The GFNY Pro Series is GFNY’s professional racing platform, built around an integrated Pro–Am format that combines UCI-sanctioned professional races with GFNY mass-participation events on the same courses and on the same weekend.

In the GFNY Pro Series, professional fields race minutes ahead of the GFNY mass peloton, delivering a shared race environment that maximizes visibility for teams, sponsors, and host communities while preserving clear competitive separation. This model allows professional racing to take place within fully secured road closures and established event infrastructure, creating efficiencies not available to standalone races.

The format was pioneered at Gran Premio New York City, where professional teams compete on the GFNY World Championship course shortly before the amateur start. GP NYC represents the original GFNY Pro–Am concept and serves as the blueprint for future Pro Series events.

The GFNY Pro Series is designed to expand selectively, with additional UCI-sanctioned races introduced only where local conditions, infrastructure, and funding support professional competition at a sustainable level. Scheduled events include Gran Premio Cozumel in conjunction with GFNY Cozumel, pending UCI approval.

GFNY is also evaluating the introduction of women’s professional racing within the Pro Series, beginning with a potential women’s race in New York City. This expansion would require extended road closures and additional operational resources, and is being developed in collaboration with partners committed to supporting the growth of women’s professional cycling.

Inaugural GFNY San Luis Potosí closes 15th GFNY season

Mercado and Reyes win the GFNY North American Championship

New York City, December 10, 2025 – Last Sunday, cyclists from around the world lined up for the inaugural edition of GFNY San Luis Potosí, that also served as the GFNY North American Championship, closing the 15th season of the GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series.

Riders faced a demanding 123 km long course with 1,900 meters of climbing, dominated by the iconic La Placa climb, which alone accounted for nearly 1,800 meters of elevation gain.

The action exploded early. Within the first 15 kilometers, a powerful breakaway of eight strong riders formed, including José Miguel Reyes, runner-up at GFNY Zapopan 2023 champ Salvador Lemus, and Christopher Hans who was runner-up at GFNY Cozumel 2023. The group pushed hard into the main climb, where multiple attacks began to fracture the front of the race. Reyes was aggressive on the ascent, launching several decisive moves as the selection narrowed to four riders.

Midway up La Placa, Mercado delivered a solid attack that the other couldn´t match, his descent was fast, opening a gap of nearly two minutes over his closest rivals. He maintained his advantage and powered alone towards the finish line, entering the historic center of San Luis Potosí to roaring crowds before claiming an emphatic solo victory and the GFNY North American Championship title.  He finished the race in 2:52:21.  Behind him, the fight for the remaining podium places came down to a fierce sprint finish between Lemus and Hans who completed the podium.

In the women’s race, Nancy Mercado from Team Fugacoaching (Mexico) took the win in 03:20:45 followed by Sofia Rodriguez (Team Liv Mexico) and Annete Rivera, making it an all Mexican podium.

GFNY is looking ahead to season 16 which will bring yet again old classics and new races, including another UCI pro race, a full highway closure in Miami, national championships and much more.

At Gran Premio New York City, professional teams race the same course as the amateurs at the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC, starting just ten minutes ahead of the mass field. The third edition will take place on May 17, 2026.

GFNY is exploring the addition of a women’s professional race in NYC, with a dedicated start 45 minutes ahead of the men’s field. Due to extended road closures, this expansion would require an additional $100,000 in operational costs.  Companies and organizations interested in supporting the growth of women’s professional cycling are invited to partner with GFNY.

The official Gran Premio NYC website is GP.GFNY.COM.

Gran Premio Cozumel – UCI Pro Race

GP Cozumel is scheduled to be held in conjunction with GFNY Cozumel on November 8, 2026, pending UCI approval, following the innovative format pioneered by GP NYC.

Inaugural GFNY San Luis Potosí closes 15th GFNY season

The central Mexican city hosts the GFNY North American Championship

New York City, December 4, 2025 – This Sunday, cyclists from around the world will take on the inaugural edition of GFNY San Luis Potosí, the newest addition to the GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series. As the host of the GFNY North American Championship, the race features a demanding long course of 154.3 km with 2237 meters of climbing, offering athletes a true test of endurance and strategy.

When you combine a great and hugely supportive destination like San Luis Potosí with a GFNY produced by Daniela and Shaun Gad of GFNY Cozumel pedigree, magic is going to happen,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “This inaugural event is the one a GFNY fan can not miss this year. And we’re adding a banger: the race winner gets to compete as part of Team GFNY Pro at the inaugural Gran Premio Cozumel UCI pro race.  It is scheduled to be held aside GFNY Cozumel on November 6 and follows the GP / GFNY concept of pros and amateurs racing the same day and course that was started in NYC in 2024.

Race week activities will be centered at Plaza del Carmen, the heart of this historic city. On Saturday, riders will enjoy GFNY San Luis Potosí’s social group ride—a relaxed opportunity to warm up, connect with fellow cyclists, and preview part of the race course. Saturday also features GFNY Kids San Luis Potosí at 8:00 am, inspiring the next generation of cyclists.

GFNY and its riders enjoy exclusive use of Krome Avenue for the 3rd Edition

New York City, December 3, 2025 – GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series is thrilled to announce that the 2026 edition of Michelob ULTRA GFNY Miami will feature a fully closed course, delivering a race experience that is safe, fast, and truly worthy of GFNY’s “Be a Pro for a Day” motto.

All four lanes of State Highway 997, also known as Krome Avenue, will be completely closed to traffic, offering participants a safe, fast and uninterrupted course. In doing so, GFNY ensures every rider, from recreational cyclists to elite competitors, enjoys an uninterrupted, traffic-free course.

Closing Krome Avenue for GFNY has been in the works for two years,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “We appreciate the support of Florida DOT to make this happen in 2026 to offer riders an even safer race experience.”

The first two editions were held on single closed to traffic lanes north- and southbound, with regular traffic coned off to the other lanes and moderated by police support. The closure of the entire highway will offer a spectacular “playground” for the riders from around the world.
