The GFNY 3x FINISHER Medal

Each year, a formidable group of GFNY riders gather on podiums throughout the Globe to celebrate the achievement of finishing 3 GFNY races in a single year. The accomplishment represents more than just the finishes, however. Those that become GFNY 3x Finishers share a commitment to training, travel, adventure, and accomplishment. There is no other event series that celebrates these traits quite like GFNY does.

How to become a GFNY 3x Finisher

Becoming a 3x GFNY Finisher is fairly simple:

Step 1: At the start of the season, look at the GFNY Race calendar and make a list of your top 5 GFNY races that fit your life calendar, travel budget, and cycling style.
Step 2: Choose a backup GFNY race for each, for example a race that is in a similar time or place.
Step 3: Check race requirements for each race, such as doctor’s notes/health forms, international licenses, or other prerequisites. All available on the GFNY website for each race. If in doubt, contact the organization via the contact form on the website with any questions.
Step 4: Register and book your travel.
Step 5: Train, travel, race. Repeat. Repeat.
Step 6: Step up on the podium with other GFNY 3x Finishers after your third race, and collect your GFNY 3x Finisher medal.

Here’s just a few ways to figure out your GFNY 3x Finisher race calendar – and remember, any distance counts toward your 3x achievement, so be bold with choices with the knowledge that you can always decide to take the shorter route on race day if the terrain is too challenging.

  • Travel logistics: Is it a long weekend kind of trip, or are you looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience and willing to make a significant trip?
  • Time of year: When do you have time to travel? When do you have more time in your schedule to get in the trailing miles? When is training and travel taking a 2nd place to other things happening in your life.
  • Season & temperatures: Both at home and at the race. For example: getting out of the cold at home to combine cycling with a warm weather vacation.
  • The race destination: Have you been and loved it and craving to come back for more fun, or the destination has been on your bucket list and this is the year to make the dream a reality.
  • Race doubles – are there two GFNY races on back-to-back weekends that support your travel logistics?
  • The course: Are the course topography or features the determining factors as to which GFNY you do? Do you seek out epic climbs and mountains, or a flat and fast course, or maybe rolling hills?

What Kind of GFNY 3x Finisher Will You Be?

If you can’t decide which races you should choose, here are some ideas, but the possibilities for adventure are endless.

  • The Bold Climber – Taking on the long and steep climbs of GFNY races in Europe, South America, and North America, bold climbers search for those GFNY races that take them to the top! The descents are as technical and challenging as the climbs, but the views make the work worthwhile!
      • The French Ranger – Lourdes Tourmalet, Grand Ballon, Alpes Vaujany,  (Pyrenees, Vosges, Alpes)
      • The Calendar Climber – La Vaujany, Grand Ballon, Orcieres
      • The Intercontinental – NYC World Championship, Villard de Lans, Pittsburgh
      • The Western – Punta del Este, NYC World Championship, Pittsburgh or Puerto Rico
  • The Fast and Fabulous – How long can you hang with the front groups to maintain a furious pace, and stay out of some of the infamous headwinds on the flatter GFNY courses. Climbers please note – the flats don’t take away the challenge, just change it to a constant battle that emphasizes bike handling and a constant effort.
      • The Wind Surfer – Cambridge, Bahamas, Cozumel
      • The Beach Comber – Bali, Cannes, Republica Dominicana, Paracas
      • The Yankee Doodle Dandy – Miami, NYC Championship, Pittsburgh
  • The Adventurer – Adventurers seek the unexpected, in the courses they ride, the foods they try, and the histories they seek out. Where will you travel and what new experiences will you have as part of your cycling journey?
    • The Great Stories – Toscana, Zapopan, Bremen
    • The Bold and Beautiful – Paracas, Bento, Colonia

The combinations are limitless and can be driven by anything that excites the adventurous cyclist in you. No matter how you achieve it, creating your GFNY 3x Finisher race calendar is a chance to
build your adventure your way, so that you can maximize your training, travel budget, and desire to see new places and experience new things.

13th NYC Bike Expo 2025 held May 16-17

Exhibitors get to showcase their products and interact with riders

New York City, November 19, 2024 –NYC Bike Expo returns for its 13th annual edition. The road cycling show will attract more than 10,000 visitors who are avid road cyclists, endurance athletes and cycling fans. Exhibitors will showcase products such as bike components, bike brands, and cycling events. Past endemic exhibitors include BMC, Ekoï, Specialized, Pinarello, Campagnolo, ELITE, Limar, Cannondale, Pissei, Vittoria and many more.

NYC Bike Expo serves as mandatory in-person packet pick up for the riders competing at the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC and the pro cyclists competing at the Gran Premio New York City UCI pro race. The expo also attracts over thousands of non-GFNY participants and is open to the public and free admission.

There are a lot less opportunities these days for exhibitors to showcase their offerings to riders in-person,” says GFNY Founder Lidia Fluhme. “Yet, those in-person experiences are invaluable for companies and brands to interact with their customers.”

Fluhme adds: “Not only do the prospective customers get to touch and feel the products. Moreso, the exhibitors have the heart on the pulse of the scene because they get to talk to the riders directly. As GFNY, we never miss an opportunity to promote our events at other events because it’s THE best way to get an insight of what riders want.”

The expo will again be held in Fort Lee, NJ, where it will be located directly at the centre of the GFNY and GPNYC Headquarters during race week. Visitors and exhibitors alike praise the easy access: the expo offers ample, affordable parking nearby and city tolls are avoided. Furthermore, it’s right at America’s most-travelled bike route on Hudson Terrace in Fort Lee, NJ. The expo will be integrated with race HQ activities and in close proximity to the start/finish point of the pre-race group rides.

Exhibitors have the option to exhibit 2 or 3 days. The pre-race expo lasts 2 days: Friday & Saturday, May 16-17. There is an additional, optional exhibition day on race day, Sunday, May 18.

Exhibitors can choose to be in the official expo tent or reserve a space in front of the tent. The latter is particularly attractive for self supported exhibitors and those with a smaller budget. The outdoor expo space also allows for trailers and other non-traditional set-ups.

Exhibitors are invited to contact Santiago at to reserve booth space. The first early bird price tier ends on November 30.

Thousands of riders tackled 11th GFNY Cozumel

Rain made this year’s edition particularly memorable

New York, November 13, 2024 – Thousands of riders from around the globe participated in the 11th edition of GFNY Cozumel, Latin America’s largest running cycling race. Riders tackled the 157.5 km challenging course under pouring tropical rain.

Irrespective of the heavy rainfall, the race started off fast as always. Right from the gun, there were a series of attacks.  It was at km 30 when three riders made the break from the peloton.

The group worked together well and quickly created a gap of over four minutes in the second loop, as they entered the second passage of the iconic King of the Wind (KOW) section of the course.

By then, the chase group, including defending GFNY Cozumel champion Flavio de Luna (Team GFNY), began to close the gap under the power and guidance of seasoned ex-pro and multiple Mexican champ Luis Lemus Davila.  The breakaway’s advantage was quickly reduced to just 30 seconds and the group could see the leaders again in the distance. This was the moment when De Luna made his move. Demonstrating the tenacity and power that earned him the 2023 victory, De Luna bridged the gap to the breakaway solo.

Once De Luna reached the lead group, he attacked them right away, only taking Uriel Omar Espinosa Lopez (Team Tenis Stars, Mexico) with him. The two then fought tooth and nail for the win. But it came down to a spectacular sprint on the last 200m of the straightaway: Espinosa took the win in 3:40:30 ahead of De Luna. Salvador Lemus Guerrero (Team Transportes Latin) escaped the bunch solo and rounded out the all Mexican podium.

In the women’s race, former champion Ana María Hernández faced a setback after crashing during the event, forcing her out of contention. Meanwhile, the riders from Pato Bike showcased their strength, with the team dominating the front group. As the race unfolded, the Pato Bike riders were the only ones left in contention, with a fierce battle for the podium spots among them.  Milena Salcedo (Colombia) took the win in 03:42:35 followed by Melissa Vargas (Colombia) and Sara Roel (Mexico).

Next up on the GFNY calendar is the 3rd edition of GFNY Puerto Rico which will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

3000 riders to race 11th GFNY Cozumel this Sunday

Riders and their families are turning the tropical paradise island into a road cycling festival

New York, November 7, 2024 – This Sunday, November 10, over 3,000 cyclists from around the globe will gather for the 11th edition of GFNY Cozumel, Latin America’s largest cycling race. Riders will take on a scenic yet challenging 157.5 km course, known for its flat terrain and strong coastal winds that test the athletes’ endurance.

“The success story of GFNY Cozumel shows what is possible when you bring a beautiful destination together with a strong organization,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “The team at Paradise Sports around Shaun Gad has grown GFNY Cozumel into Latin Americas largest road race within just a handful of years. But it’s so much more than a cycling race. It’s a latin style road cycling festival with an unparalleled can’t-miss-it appeal.”

Race week is packed with events at the Centro de Convenciones Cozumel. Highlights include the GFNY Cozumel group ride, giving participants the chance to ride alongside former professional cyclists Raúl Alcalá and Luis Lemus. The excitement builds further on Saturday with the GFNY Kids Cozumel races at 8am, where young riders, starting as young as two years old, will enjoy their own mini-GFNY experience, complete with a ride shirt and finisher medal.

Sunday’s race will offer breathtaking views of Cozumel’s turquoise waters and white beaches, but riders will have to contend with Cozumel’s famous headwinds. With family and friends cheering them on, participants will transform the island into a cycling mecca—combining athleticism, tropical beauty, and a festival-like atmosphere that makes GFNY Cozumel one of the most anticipated cycling events of the year.

2024 GFNY World Champions Beccaria and Caddeo dominate inaugural GFNY Bahamas

New York City, November 6, 2024 -Nassau, the vibrant capital of The Bahamas, hosted GFNY Bahamas, the first ever mass participation cycling race in the country. Riders tackled a flat yet very windy 60.8-mile course.

New Yorker Kyle Devine-Szymonek (Team Zero Ducks Racing) attacked from the gun and built his lead to over three minutes with less than half of the race to go. On his heels were two chasers: 2024 GFNY World Champion Manuele Caddeo (Team OMCC, Italy) and Gonzalo Alonso Dominguez (Spain, Team Lasal Cocinas Craega Louria) who worked well together but the win seemed to have slipped away. With twenty miles to go, Devine-Szymonek’s lead started melting in the rising temperatures and with ten miles to go, the three were together. Caddeo wasn’t willing to risk a sprint so he attacked hard with five miles to go, his chasers unable to match his effort.

Caddeo took the solo win in 2:27:05 followed by Alonso Dominguez and Devine-Szymonek.

In the female race, Lorenza Beccaria (Team OMCC- Italy) raced smartly in the ten-rider-group behind the male leaders and took the win unchallenged in 2:34:38 ahead of Mariana Menezes (Brazil).  Maude Sirois (Canada) rounded out the podium in third place.

Next up on the GFNY calendar is the 11th edition of GFNY Cozumel which will take place Sunday, November 10, 2024.

GFNY Toscana – Pistoia

The Courses

The 117km long race with 2,000m of climbing starts in the historic city center of Pistoia, at the Piazza del Duomo. From there, it heads south towards what is arguably the heart of road cycling in the world: Monte San Baronto. This inauspicious, 500m tall hill with vineyards and olive groves is home to some of the greatest professional riders, past and present, as well as numerous races from junior level all the way to World Tour. The area is not just famous for its cycling heritage; at km 90, the course traverses Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, the artist-scientist genius.

After the opening 21 flat kilometers, the south eastern end of Monte San Baronto offers four back-to-back climbs where you gain and drop about 200m at each one. At the most southern point of the course, a climb leads up to the small town of Montespertoli in the Chianti hills from where you can catch a glimpse of Florence, just 20km away.

Heading back north, the Castro climb on the western side of Monte San Baronto leads to the highest point of the race at 420m. It is followed by a twisty-fun descent down to Vinci. From there, the 12km-long gradual climb to the San Baronto village at an altitude of 365m begins. It’s rarely steeper than 3% and a feast for your senses and why Toscana is considered a cycling paradise: it winds its way through vineyards and olive groves, offering spectacular views of the Lucca valley and the Apuan Alps.

From San Baronto at 102km, the course leads you back to Pistoia by first descending Monte San Baronto via Casalguidi and from there, cruise along the final flat 10km stretch to the finish line at “La Cattedrale”, a historic industrial building now hosting GFNY’s packet pickup and post race festivities.

The medium route riders ride the same course as the long route riders until km 23.5, and cut 51km of the long route by splitting off at Carmignano. You will take on the challenging climb of Pinone, then descend down to Vinci, and rejoin the long route from Vinci to the finish line.

Long Route – 117.1 km / 1966 m+

Medium Route – 66.3 km / 1024 m+

About Pistoia

Pistoia beautifully blends medieval charm with a Renaissance flair. The city’s medieval roots are evident in its well-preserved architecture, from the Romanesque Cathedral of San Zeno with its striking bell tower to the Piazza del Duomo, a central square that hosts some of Pistoia’s most iconic landmarks. The city is best explored on foot, with narrow medieval streets, hidden alleys, and charming local shops that invite exploration. Enjoy the traditional Tuscan fare with a Pistoiese twist; think hearty dishes like ribollita, crostini, and artisanal cheeses paired with local wines.

Pistoia is situated in the Ombrone River Valley, with mountains and hills surrounding the city to the north and south. Higher distant peaks combined with hills dotted with spectacular tree-lined roads, olive groves, vineyards, provide breathtaking views and spectacular pre- and post-race bike rides and tourism adventures.

Just a short drive away, you’ll also find Montecatini Terme, a famed spa town where you can unwind in mineral-rich thermal waters, adding a layer of relaxation to your GFNY trip. If you’re looking to add more stops to your Tuscan travel itinerary, Florence, Lucca and Pisa are all within an hour drive and add more unforgettable experiences, sights and fun to your GFNY Pistoia trip.

Maybe you have other tourism stops on the way to, or from Pistoia as part of your GFNY Italia trip and maybe flying on a direct flight driving from Rome or Milan makes sense based on your itinerary.

From Asia

Check FlyDubai (flies to Pisa PSA), Qatar Airways (flies to Rome FCO and Milan MXP), Etihad (flies to Rome FCO and Milan MXP) and Emirates (flies to Rome FCO and Milan MXP) for flight connections.

Ground transfers

Both airports have car rental available.

  • From Florence airport, you can take a taxi.
  • For Pisa airport transfer, it’s best if you book an airport transfer in advance.
